U.N. summit: Businesses can provide solutions for poor countries
More than 1,000 senior executives – including DI CEO Hans Skov Christensen and a long list of CEOs from DI’s member companies – gathered for a United Nations conference to discuss how companies across the globe can contribute to solving the world’s vast social and environmental challenges.
An event that Minister for Economic and Business Affairs Brian Mikkelsen and DI CEO Hans Skov Christensen hosted in connection with the summit broadcast the message that the potential for business that particularly benefits the poor countries is enormous.
Participants discussed the opportunities of the so-called Base of the Pyramid market. The BoP market is rock bottom of the world’s economic pyramid and primarily exists in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
“When we are talking about the influence of corporations on the world around us, it is unfortunately much too often about reducing their negative impacts, for instance through their CSR work. But the fact is that the companies mainly influence the world by developing new, innovative products and solutions,” says DI Advisor Dorte Gram Nybroe.
